About
Acid house is a subgenre of house music developed around the mid-1980s. It is characterized by the squelching sounds and deep basslines of the Roland TB-303 synthesizer-sequencer.
History
Acid house originated in Chicago in the mid-1980s. DJs such as Ron Hardy and DJ Pierre experimented with the Roland TB-303, manipulating its controls to create unusual, psychedelic sounds. These sounds became popular in underground parties and clubs, and the genre quickly spread to the United Kingdom, where it played a key role in the rave scene. The name 'acid house' is often attributed to the Phuture track 'Acid Tracks' (1987).
